Right-Wing Ralphie is back, this time guiding us through how Donald Trump became Trump the Republican Nominee. Spoiler alert: this has been brewing for a long time, don’t just blame Indiana. The Republican Party has been trying to capitalize on angry Tea Party voters and ride an anti-elite, anti-government groundswell to victory for quite a while. Little did they know it would be Donald Trump’s victory.
Ted Cruz railing against the “Washington Cartel” before he lost and went back to his job as a, um, United States Senator, may be the purest embodiment of what happens when you play with electoral fire. The Republican Party seems to have outsmarted themselves. Now they have a guy leading their party who has blamed Mexicans for bringing “tremendous infectious disease” across the border, regularly cites the National Enquirer and is ready to shake up foreign policy by being “unpredictable.”
I know there are plenty of people who think having Donald Trump as the Republican presidential candidate is a godsend for Hillary Clinton. That may be, but I think this is still a little too close to Pennsylvania Avenue for The Donald. No matter what you think of his “policies,” Trump has proven he’s an effective campaigner and is able to connect with voters. He’s wild! He’s brash! He says what’s on his mind! For too many voters, it seems, that is all it takes. Enjoy the cartoon, and be sure to check out what goodies you can get when you support me on my Patreon page!
