Today’s conventional wisdom seems to be that we’re just shy of a “constitutional crisis.” Maybe a “constitutional quasi-crisis?” Seems pretty crisis-like to me when the executive branch completely defies the oversight role of the Congress of the United States — while ample evidence of presidential wrongdoing exists and even-ampler reason to investigate further exists.
But don’t worry, Sen. Mitch McConnell says, “case closed!”
Now that Attorney General William Barr has refused to turn over the unredacted Mueller report to Congress, the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold Barr in contempt. Cue Donald Trump’s humongous don’t-ever-ever-back-down gland. This is not ending anytime soon. Sorry, Mitch.
It sure looks like we’re well on the path to impeachment, provided Rep. Nancy Pelosi doesn’t keep thinking that impeachment is just a clever ploy by Donald Trump. I’m all for electoral realism, but I think there are more important things than playing election chess with Trump. Things like the U.S. Constitution.
