I’m beginning to think President Trump’s “path to victory” is really nothing more than a path to relevance and continued fundraising. The votes have been counted, and in some cases, recounted. They’ve been certified. Lawsuits have been heard, laughed at and tossed out. The Electoral College has weighed in and called this election. It’s over.
It is now even more obvious that America First really means America second. President Trump is trashing democracy on his way out the door and congressional Republicans are complicit. Abetted by nearly all leading Republicans, Trump is actively trying to undo the results of a free and fair election while inciting violence.
No matter what President Trump said in his 46-minute rant from the White House, he lost the election. He’s losing support among key state Republicans and even appears to have lost his ol’ pal, Bill Barr. Never mind, there’s grifting to do!
It seems like a good time to pause, reflect and . . . thank God the idiots are leaving. (Fingers crossed.) With the transition now officially kicked off by Trump cultist Emily Murphy of the previously invisible General Services Administration, we may finally be permitted to exhale.
The only way Donald Trump will leave the White House without kicking and screaming or further undermining the electoral process is if we convince him he’ll be better off out of office. He has amply demonstrated that he will never back down, no matter how much he has lost or how wrong he is.
The lame duck president, Donald Trump, and his Republican supporters refuse to believe that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the election by millions of popular (and plenty of electoral) votes. Trump clearly is still in command of the Republican Party with guys like Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham and Kevin McCarthy spreading any crackpot vote conspiracy that comes along.
As I write this, the votes are not in and no projected winner has been declared. There is no “president elect,” except in Donald Trump’s mind. Trump and the Republicans know they can’t win a national election with an outright majority so they focus on winning by suppressing the vote and shouting “fraud!”
Joe Biden had Barack Obama as his closer on the campaign trail and President Trump has COVID-19. There are so many reasons Trump should be voted (perp-walked?) out of office but the way he handled the pandemic rises to the top of the list.
President Trump is throwing everything in to try and win reelection, including the kitchen sink. In this case, the kitchen sink is a completely ridiculous conspiracy theory about celebrities and Democrats conspiring to eat babies. That is the gist of the QAnon conspiracy, which Trump retweets and has refused to denounce.
How do I hate thee, 2020? Let me count the ways. Sure, there was plenty of cartoon material, but I’d have much rather we had a boring ol’ year. No such luck this turn around the sun.
