At this point it’s pretty much a given that Donald Trump has some good pals on the U.S. Supreme Court. Sure, some might be ethically challenged, but that is of course very on-brand.
The Supreme Court rejected a Colorado ruling that the 14th Amendment disqualifies the Insurrectionist-in-Chief from the ballot — which wasn’t much of a surprise.
Ruling on a presidential election is federal business, said the justices (unanimously), we can’t have states deciding who can and who can’t run for president.
But things got interesting when five of the court’s conservative justices carved out part of the 14th Amendment so it would be much more difficult — if not impossible — to disqualify insurrectionists from holding office.
The conservative justices took a straightforward “no insurrectionists” part of the U.S. Constitution, saw things that weren’t there and turned the written text completely upside-down.
It’s like AI hallucinating, but for right-wing justices!
Needless to say, the court’s three sane justices were not pleased.
A lot can happen between now and November, I just get nervous when too many things go Trump’s way.
Here’s hoping actual voters will send Trump packing once and for all and the Defendant-in-Chief can spend the rest of his life in courtrooms and jail.
